Although blood is primarily a liquid, it also contains smaller solid components. Platelets are best known for blood clotting. However, platelets also contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors, which are important for wound healing. PRP is plasma with more platelets than are normally found in the blood. The concentration of platelets and therefore the concentration of growth factors can be 5 to 10 times higher than normal.
